Compatibilizers are also known as compatibilizers. The key to plastic blending, modification and alloy is to solve the compatibility of different polymers, and adding an appropriate amount of compatibilizer to make it have good compatibility is to solve this problem.

It is important to choose the right compatibilizer to give full play to the properties of different components and prevent the product from failing in the final use process.

 

According to the interaction characteristics between the matrix polymers of compatibilizers, compatibilizers can be divided into two categories: non-reactive compatibilizers and reactive compatibilizers.

 

Non-reactive compatibilizer

Non-reactive compatibilizers are those copolymers that do not contain reactive genes and do not participate in chemical reactions during the mixing of polymers.

From a structural point of view, most of the non-reactive compatibilizers are block copolymers and graft copolymers or random copolymers, such as EAA, EEA, EVA, CPE, SEBS, etc.

However, this type of compatibilizer needs to be added in large quantities.

 

Reactive compatibilizer

Reactive compatibilizers mainly react with the raw polymer to form chemical bonds through their own reactive groups to improve compatibility.

It is generally macromolecular, and its active functional group can be at the end of the molecule or on the side chain of the molecule. The macromolecular backbone can be the same or different from at least one of the polymer matrix in the blend. However, under different circumstances, the macromolecular backbone should have good compatibility with at least one polymer matrix in the blending system.

The advantages of this kind of compatibilizer are high efficiency and small amount to be added, and the disadvantage is that the side reaction is large and the requirements for mixing conditions are relatively high.
